Stiffening
Grandstand bracing – horizontal force absorption for stable spectator facilities from Bender
What is bracing in grandstand construction?
Bracing refers to structural measures that introduce horizontal forces from wind, impact loads, or earthquakes into the supporting structure and transfer them to the support points. Without bracing, a grandstand would tip over or deform under lateral load. Bracing elements include diagonal braces, cross bracing, and longitudinal and transverse bracing.
Stiffening concepts in the Bender system
Bender's modular system features a standard-compliant bracing concept in all spatial directions. Longitudinal bracing secures the structure against wind loads from the front and rear. Transverse bracing provides lateral bracing. All bracing elements are included in the structural stability analysis. The position of the bracing elements is shown in the assembly plan.
Wind load and bracing requirements
Wind load is usually the determining factor for bracing dimensions. The higher the grandstand and the more exposed the location to wind, the more bracing is required. Bender calculates the bracing requirements for each specific location.
Stiffening in complex configurations
For multi-sided arenas, bracing concepts require particularly careful planning, as wind loads can act from various directions. Bender possesses the expertise for even the most complex bracing tasks.
