Step height increase

Elevated steps in the grandstand – height difference between steps for optimal sightlines

What is step over-increase?

Step height difference is the vertical height difference between two successive levels of steps in a grandstand. A greater step height difference means that each subsequent row is significantly higher – which improves sightlines and increases the C-value. At the same time, the overall height increases, and therefore the structural requirements.

Step height and visibility quality at Bender

Bender calculates the optimal step elevation individually, depending on the target C-value, the distance to the playing surface, and the total capacity. Standard values range from 200 to 350 mm. Higher values can be achieved for high-quality sports stands. The modular system allows for flexible adjustment of the step elevation across the entire width of the stands.

Uniform vs. variable step increase

Simple grandstands use a uniform step elevation. In more complex projects, it can vary from front to back to achieve a constant C-value across all rows.

Safety aspects of step increase

Large step rises increase the risk of falls when ascending and descending. Standard-compliant railings and sufficiently deep steps are mandatory. Bender takes these requirements into account in every configuration.
