Step depth
Step depth of grandstand – standard-compliant planning of step dimensions for safe spectator facilities
What is the step depth of a grandstand?
The step depth is the horizontal surface area of a single step – the area on which spectators stand in a standing terrace or use the ground in front of their seat in a seated terrace. In standing terraces, the step depth is standardized and describes the standing area per person. In seated terraces, it affects legroom.
Standard-compliant step depth in Bender grandstands
Bender ensures all step depths comply with DIN EN 13200. Minimum step depths are defined for standing terraces to guarantee sufficient space for movement. For seated terraces, the step depth is selected to achieve a standard-compliant row depth in combination with the seating. The modular system allows for gradual adjustments as required.
Step depth and capacity
Greater step depths offer more comfort but reduce capacity. Bender helps event organizers optimally balance comfort and capacity.
Step depth and choice of covering
For narrow steps, a particularly slip-resistant surface is crucial. Bender offers slip-resistant laminated timber, screen-printed wood, and grating surfaces for all step configurations.
