Soil conditions

Ground conditions of the grandstand – subsoil testing as a basis for secure foundations

Why is the soil condition important for stands?

The ground at the installation site must be able to support the foundation loads of the grandstand without impermissible settlement. Soft soils such as grass or sand have lower load-bearing capacities than compacted gravel or concrete. An incorrect assessment of the soil's load-bearing capacity can lead to settlement and, in the worst case, to structural failure.

Soil bearing capacity assessment with Bender

Bender Tribünen assesses the soil conditions during the preliminary planning phase and determines the necessary support plates and foundation measures. For soft or unstable soils, large-area wooden planks or steel plates are used to distribute loads over a larger area. For particularly critical soil conditions, Bender recommends a geotechnical report.

Lawns and green areas

Lawns are a common location for equipment installations – for example, at golf tournaments. They have limited load-bearing capacity, which can decrease further through irrigation. Bender designs the foundations for all typical soil conditions.

Paved surfaces as installation locations

Foundation work is simpler on asphalt or concrete because higher ground pressures are permissible. However, base plates still distribute column foot loads evenly in these cases.
