Row spacing

Grandstand row spacing – Planning the seat row spacing for comfort and compliance with standards

What is the row spacing in grandstands?

Row spacing refers to the horizontal distance between two consecutive rows of seats, measured from the front edge of one seat to the front edge of the next. Unlike row depth (step depth), row spacing refers to the floor dimension only. DIN EN 13200 specifies minimum values to ensure comfort and safety.

Standard-compliant row spacing at Bender

Bender plans row spacing in accordance with the type of event, the desired capacity, and comfort requirements. Minimum dimensions according to DIN EN 13200 are always adhered to. More generous row spacing is recommended for high-quality events with longer durations. Row spacing directly influences capacity and comfort.

Row spacing and capacity optimization

A larger row spacing offers more comfort but reduces capacity. Bender finds the optimal compromise for every event.

Folding seats and row spacing

Folding seats allow for standard-compliant escape route widths with more compact row spacing, as the seat surface clears the aisle when at rest.
