Row depth

Grandstand row depth – planning the row spacing for comfort and compliance with standards

What is the row depth of a grandstand?

Row depth is the horizontal depth of a row of seats, measured from the front edge of one step to the front edge of the next step behind it. It determines how much legroom a spectator has and how easily they can pass other people. The minimum row depth is specified in DIN EN 13200 and is at least 760 mm for seating in grandstands.

Optimal row depth in Bender grandstands

Bender plans the row depth in accordance with the type of event, the desired capacity, and comfort requirements. For sporting events with frequent standing, a greater row depth is recommended. Folding seats offer more comfortable use while still complying with standards. Bender finds the optimal compromise for every project.

Row depth and capacity

Greater row depth means fewer rows in the same grandstand area and therefore lower capacity. Bender optimizes the compromise between comfort and capacity for every type of event.

Row depth in standing terraces

In standing terraces, the step depth is standardized and describes the standing area per person. This is regulated by DIN EN 13200 and must guarantee sufficient freedom of movement.
