Passage width

Grandstand passage width – standard-compliant aisle widths for escape and comfort according to DIN EN 13200

What is the passage width in grandstands?

The passage width is the clear width of entrances, corridors, and escape routes. It is calculated based on the visitor capacity of the respective area and must guarantee the required evacuation time. Sufficient passage width is also important during normal operation to prevent congestion.

Standard-compliant passage widths in Bender grandstands

Bender plans all aisles and access points with minimum passage widths according to DIN EN 13200. The widths are calculated based on the number of people who need to leave the respective area in an emergency. Folding seats can increase the effective aisle width, as the seat surface does not restrict the passage when not in use.

Minimum widths according to DIN EN 13200

As a guideline, an escape route width of one meter is required for every 600 people. Main entrances must be designed for higher pedestrian flows than secondary entrances.

Accessibility and minimum widths

Barrier-free access requires wider passageways for wheelchairs. Bender designs barrier-free access routes with the required minimum widths.
