Foundation

Grandstand foundation – foundation load and base for safe mobile spectator facilities

What is the foundation load of a grandstand?

The foundation load is the force transferred from a single support leg of the grandstand to the ground. It comprises the dead weight, the live load, and vertical wind load components. The foundation load determines whether direct installation is possible or whether support plates or more complex foundation measures are required. Incorrectly dimensioned foundations can lead to dangerous settlement.

Foundation load calculation for Bender grandstands

Bender calculates the foundation loads for each support foot individually. The highest loads typically occur at corners and heavily loaded interior columns. Based on the foundation loads and the soil bearing capacity, the required bearing area of the base plates is calculated. Large-area wooden planks or steel plates are used on soft subsoil. Special foundation designs are developed for critical soil conditions.

Support plates and load distribution

Support plates distribute the concentrated column base load over a larger ground area, reducing the ground pressure to an acceptable level. Bender dimensiones all support plates in the stability analysis.

Special situations: soft soil and sloping terrain

On soft ground or slopes, wooden decking, concrete slabs, or point foundations may be necessary. Bender is familiar with all common solutions and will choose the most economical one.
