Escape route
Escape route grandstand – standard-compliant planning and execution of evacuation routes at events
What is an escape route in grandstands?
An escape route is a designated, permanently unobstructed path through which people can safely leave the stands in an emergency. It must be sufficiently wide, illuminated, and signposted, and lead to safe areas outside the structure. The relevant standards are the German Ordinance on Places of Assembly (VStättVO) and DIN EN 13200.
Escape route planning at Bender grandstands
Bender integrates escape routes as an integral part of every grandstand design. The number, width, and location of the escape routes are determined by capacity and regulatory requirements. The planning team is familiar with all relevant standards and always designs grandstands to ensure that evacuation requirements are met comfortably. Bender provides complete escape route documentation for the authorities.
Standard-compliant escape route widths
According to the German Ordinance on Places of Assembly (VStättVO) and DIN EN 13200, a net escape route width of one meter is required for every 600 people. Folding seats can increase the effective aisle width, as they do not restrict the aisle when not in use.
Signage and emergency lighting
All escape routes must be marked with standardized escape route signs and equipped with emergency lighting. Bender coordinates the integration into the construction plan.
