C-value (line-of-sight measurement)
C-value grandstand – sightline calculation for optimal spectator view in every configuration
What is the C-value in grandstand construction?
The C-value – also known as sightline elevation or sightline height – describes how many millimeters a spectator's view extends beyond the line of sight of the row in front. A higher C-value indicates better visibility because the spectator can see over the person sitting in front of them. In practice, C-values of 60 to 120 mm are targeted – higher values signify superior spectator facilities. The C-value is one of the most important parameters in grandstand construction.
C-value optimization at Bender grandstands
Bender grandstands optimize the C-value of each stand individually based on the type of event, the geometry of the playing field or stage, and the desired capacity. The experienced planning team calculates the ideal step height and angle of inclination to ensure optimal sightlines from all rows of seats. Uneven terrain or special site conditions are also factored into the C-value calculation. No seat at Bender has an unnecessarily poor view.
C-value and step increase
The C-value is closely linked to the step height difference: the greater the height difference between two consecutive steps, the better the sightline. Bender finds the optimal compromise between sight quality, grandstand height, and structural complexity.
Standards and sightline planning
The C-value is calculated according to DIN EN 13200 and international standards. Bender documents all sightline calculations as part of the complete planning documents, which can also be submitted to authorities.
