Angle of inclination

Grandstand incline – optimal slope for best view and maximum safety

What is the angle of inclination of a grandstand?

The angle of inclination describes the angle between the level of the stands and the horizontal. A steeper angle improves the C-value and allows for better sightlines, even for spectators seated further back. At the same time, it increases the overall height, the structural load, and the wind resistance. The optimal angle of inclination is a carefully considered compromise.

Optimal tilt angles for Bender grandstands

Bender calculates the ideal angle of inclination for each stand individually. Event type, distance to the playing field, capacity, and terrain conditions are all taken into account. Typical angles for sports stands range between 25 and 35 degrees. Bender simulates the sightlines for each row to ensure that no seat has an unnecessarily poor view.

Tilt angle and safety

A steep incline can be challenging for older visitors. Bender takes into account accessibility and standards for incline angles on access stairs.

Tilt angle and wind load

A steep grandstand profile offers a larger surface area to the wind. Bender takes this effect into account in the wind load calculation and designs the anchoring and bracing accordingly.
