Aisle
Central aisle of the grandstand – central access route for comfortable access to all seats
What is a central aisle in grandstands?
A central aisle is a vertical passageway that divides a grandstand in the middle, providing access to the seats on the left and right. It serves as both a circulation route and an escape route and must be dimensioned according to standards. A central aisle improves comfort, as spectators only need to cross a maximum of half a row of seats to reach their seats.
Central aisles in the Bender grandstand design
Bender plans to include central aisles as a standard element in grandstands above a certain width. The aisle width is calculated based on capacity and complies with the standard requirements for escape routes. With folding seats, the effective aisle width when not in use is wider than with fixed seats, improving comfort and escape route capacity. The central aisle is shown in the setup plan.
central aisle and escape route capacity
The central aisle contributes to the escape route capacity. Its width is therefore taken into account in the evacuation calculation. Bender designs central aisles so that they can be used as fully functional escape routes.
central aisle and comfort
A central aisle shortens the route to the seat and makes it easier to change seats during the event. Bender recommends central aisles for stands with more than 20 seats per row.
